Manhasset NY Yellow Pages

Manhasset is a hamlet on the North Shore of Long Island. At one time the area was known as Snit Sink which meant the place of a variety of stones. It was a farming community during the 19th century and an inlet of Long Island Sound. The community was founded by English families along with a few Dutch families that purchased the land from the Matinecock Indians. During the American Revolution, the area was occupied by British troops. The Long Island Rail Road was built here in 1898 which brought more prosperity to the community. At the beginning of the 20th century many horse breeders along with polo players moved to the area which helped the economy thrive. Manhasset is home to two elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school. Many visitors love the area known as the Miracle Mile which is home to a variety of quaint and charming shops. The hamlet is also home to several beautiful Catholic churches including the Christ Episcopal which was built in 1932. The most popular historical site is the Science Museum offering all kinds of family fun activities.
